China at this time suffered from the twin evils of warlordism and imperialism i. In order to fight the warlords and curb the imperialists, the Nationalistsled by Sun Yat-sen until his death in Marchhad secured the assistance of the Soviet Union and the cooperation of the CCP and were then preparing a military expedition from their base in Guangzhou. Lin had been at the academy less than a year when Chiang launched the Northern Expedition in July Nevertheless, despite the brevity of his formal training, Lin quickly demonstrated his military prowess.

A few months later, when the expedition reached the Yangtze River Chang Jiang in central China, he had risen from deputy platoon leader to battalion commander.

In the bitter civil war between the Nationalists and the communists ended temporarily as the two sides formed a united front against the common foe, Japan. More about Brian. The goal of the project was to create a mock tea packaging design on a rectilinear, three-dimensional box. We were assigned a type of tea split up into four different categories: low-end, high-end, medicinal, and international. Our design therefore needed to match the needs and target the segment which the categories addressed. RESEARCH The weekend before we met as a group, I went to local supermarkets and tea stores to research different types of tea designs that were on display, paying attention to contrast and hierarchy to see how successfully-designed tea packaging used design principles to stand out and pop from the crowd.

Elements such as how the boxes were placed on the shelf were signs of their price range. For example, cheaper teas would be placed alongside the center of aisles and used bright colors or decorative patterning to attracted a potential customer.

Higher-end teas, on the other hand, relied on a more minimal, sleeker aesthetic, and they would usually be seen in smaller quantities. Two Main Takeaways: 1: Many medicinal tea packaging used floral patterning, organic shapes, and decorations that is reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts movement in the early 20th century, which gave their brands a dated, older look.

Almost all of these teas advertised the use of natural, organic ingredients which are known for their health benefits. I looked at the minimal, negative-space illlustrations of Malika Favre and Noma Bar as inspiration for their use of curved lines and double imagery.

I also explored more science based designs, looking at the visuals of the periodic table as well as of molecular bonds. I also drew upon some existing products which played on this idea. In the initial prototyping phase, I went to the art library and scanned interesting textures and images that I thought would make for good patterns on my box.

These images were not chosen from a particular subject or theme but instead for their aesthetic interest. Using my collection of scanned images as inspiration, I quickly thumbnailed some ideas for layouts to test out the composition. I made some quick mock-ups of the designs on my thumbnails with my scanned images.

Later, I made 3 more refined ideas for how I wanted to take the assignments. Our restraint during this stage was that all our mockups needed to be in black-and-white so we could focus on the composition of our layout. Each went in a separate direction. We are element. Our mission is to distill tea to its essential ingredients by cutting out all the filler and only providing you with the best ingredients for your body.

My first idea played off the idea of having a period table of elements, and I used a science-inspired design with clean edges, rectilinear shapes, and a grid-like, stable, composed composition. Delightfully delicious. Warning: this product is not meant to be used as a substitute for medicine.

My second idea incorporated negative space and flat illustrations which had more flowing lines and a sense of movement. I wanted to use these lines to add a sense of movement and emphasize the energy of the brand. My third idea incorporated more found images in which I imagined overlaying pictures on top of each other.U niversity of W isconsin —Madison.

Page Page Page Page Page I've always enjoyed the patient population of San Francisco: it's a unique urban environment with interesting individuals, whose medical needs are as diverse as their personalities.

Kaiser Permanente San Francisco is a community hospital that caters to this population, with a rich network of readily accessible subspecialty care.

This allows me to provide high-quality, state-of-the-art care for my patients. In the field of Emergency Medicine, every day is a unique challenge with diagnostic dilemmas, opportunities to solve unusual cases, and the chance to provide critical care in a patient's time of need.

I enjoy the privilege of interfacing with all members of our Kaiser community through my work as a physician in the ED. My interest is in Medical Education. I have published several book chapters and online articles in the field of Emergency Medicine, and regularly lecture on EM topics to the resident physicians in training at UCSF and Stanford. The state-of-the-art computerized health records here at Kaiser Permanente allow physicians to get to know a patient's medical history before we even enter the room.

I love being able to review information about a patient's past medical history, medications, and other data so that I can spend more time with my patient actually taking about what's wrong, and how we can solve the problem. I also believe our online system for arranging follow up visits for patients helps to streamline their care and avoid unnecessary phone calls, wait time, and frustration.
